Censorship

This won't be a long text. Please read in Turkish if possible to capture all the emotions.

Perhaps we hear different ideas from many people during this period of censorship. Why can't one of them be me, why can't it be you? I think this is our biggest problem today. They made us forget this feeling, to be united and to react. The primary cause of the events that happen to us in this era is exactly this. Our inability to receive responses to the reactions we previously gave, the opposition's unwillingness for us to rise, and our forgetting how to organize. We have now become a society that is silent and accepting no matter what happens to us. Forgetting that those we brought to power work for us and instead accepting living according to the whims of some, and even our inability to get properly angry has started to bother me and cause me to lose my hope with each passing day.

A few years ago, when porn sites were first banned, the protests for this should have been an example for us, but just a few months ago, our inability to give a proper reaction even for the ban of OnlyFans is the shortest summary of how miserable a state we are in. Maybe you were even ashamed to post this on your story, were you going to defend the pornographers? I used to think people didn't react to censorship of content they didn't use or were ashamed of using, but today I see that even when platforms everyone uses are banned, we cannot unite and properly defend our rights. As long as we allow this, they will continue to shut down and censor everything we love and they don't. That's why it was important to defend others' rights even if it didn't concern us, that's why we should never have said "Why should I care about this ban?"

I don't think anything happening today is a coincidence or unplanned. On the contrary, this effort to render the society unresponsive, which has been ongoing for years, is successfully confining all of us to our homes. Maybe there are other factors that are making us weary: endless price increases, falling out with each other due to opportunism, our inability to travel freely, animals, and many others. But maybe this is exactly what they want. A weary society. Unresponsive and silent. A group of people who bow to everything they say. A herd without the consciousness of being a society. Maybe this is a magnificent engineering product they produced.

For these reasons, the mornings I wake up thinking "maybe there is a ray of sunshine behind these darknesses" are decreasing, and unfortunately, I am no longer usually sleeping by waiting for the spring. Every day, I sleep with another worry, another anxiety, and wake up with another problem. Being apolitical in this country is not an option; it shouldn't be. As long as we don't react to some things, everything we love will be taken away from us one by one, and we won't even find a few people to talk about it with. Maybe this is not the first time we are feeling these emotions, as Ece Ayhan wrote, but I hope that one day it will end.

Masterwork

1. The poor bird never forgets, it was the year the books were burned

We saw it enter from forty doors at once with the state
A headless horse and its pale, ornate rider inside

According to the dervishes, the torn death is returning from the east

That’s why a city is divided into three with bitter water

2. The poor bird never forgets, the boys whose masters died
Used to comb each other’s hair when they came out of the sea

Ah my handsome young man in the watermelon Istanbul
Hiding your heart with shame and smelling of rotten flowers

Black pigeons are flying over the reading piece of a city.

3. The poor bird never forgets that golden dialectical law either
Many a prince in history has unknowingly carried his horse

That's why masterwork ghazals are carved into their sarcophagi.
